LungLink for Android OS Announced During Minnesota Rural Health Conference

DULUTH, Minn. – During the Minnesota Rural Health Conference on Tuesday, Rochester, MN based The Respiration Corporation announced the release of the LungLink medical app in the Google Play Store.  “We are excited for LungLink to be available for patients using Android devices. The LungLink App was designed and developed right here in Minnesota,” said Richard Hinds, a registered respiratory therapist and the founder of LungLink.  The company says this development will help improve access to chronic lung disease management for 43 million Americans with Asthma or COPD. In May,  the company announced that LungLink was available for Apple users in the Apple App Store. The app allows patients to have their lung function and oxygen levels monitored at home by LungLink’s respiratory therapists in order to help the patient’s care team make changes to their treatment plan in between office visits.

According to the American Lung Association, over 700,000 Minnesotans suffer from Asthma or COPD but the findings of a report by the State of Minnesota raises serious concerns about access to cardiopulmonary experts.  It found that while the ratio of respiratory therapists in metropolitan areas was approximately 1 respiratory therapist for every 2,600 Minnesotans, in rural Minnesota, that ratio dropped to approximately 1 respiratory therapist for every 22,800 Minnesotans.  A major focus of the Minnesota Rural Health Conference was how to use technology and services like LungLink to help address these access issues.
